Location

The Miyako islands consist of eight islands (Miyako, Irabu, Shimoji, Ikema, Ogami, Kurima, Tarama, and Minna) situated approximately 300 kilometers southwest of the main island of Okinawa. Miyakojima City is made up of six of these islands (Miyako, Irabu, Shimoji, Ikema, Ogami, and Kurima). The administrative branch office is located on the largest island of Miyako. A bridge connects the islands of Shimoji and Irabu, and Ikema and Kurima are connected by bridge to Miyako. A bridge connecting Irabu and Miyako is currently under construction. Nishihara is located on the island of Miyako approximately three kilometers north of an area called Hirara, the center of island’s city.
